5 New Kitchen Appliances

Ever wonder how your favorite kitchenware store decides what products to sell? Chances are, they go to the International Home & Housewares Show in March to see the newest kitchen equipment on the market. This is where manufacturers showcase their newest designs and technologies, and where many of the products in your kitchen probably made their debut.

If you've been thinking of buying or upgrading any cooking equipment, here are five new products to watch for at your local stores. Some are even already available for purchase!

1.  Dualit Food Processor

British appliance company Dualit looks to be giving Cuisinart and KitchenAid a run for their money with its first food processor. Its version has some unusual features, including the E-disc, an attachment that acts as a balloon whisk to whip cream and emulsify sauces and dressings, and an adjustable slicing disk that can cut foods to a variety of thicknesses. It comes with three bowl sizes, 3 sizes of chopping blade, and a sealed drive system that means you can fill the bowls to capacity without worrying about leaks.

2.  Emerilware BAM! Machine

America's favorite TV chef, Emeril Lagasse, helped design this three-in-one machine, which is a food processor, blender and citrus juicer. The BAM! Machine has a 550-watt motor and a buit-in storage drawer for the many blades, cutting discs and other attachments. The 12-cup food processor includes a chopping blade, slicing and shredding discs, emulsifying disc and dough hook. The blender has a 40-ounce jar, and the citrus press lets you juice citrus fruits right into a glass. Available in May, the BAM! Machine comes with 7 recipes created by Emeril himself.

 - Fagor

3.  Fagor Multi-Cooker

If you're short on storage space, this appliance is for you. It's a pressure cooker, rice cooker and slow cooker all in one. The rice cooker feature can steam rice in as little as 6 minutes, while the slow cooker can be set for cooking times as long as 9.5 hours. The pressure cooker feature has a high and low setting for a variety of recipes. The Multi-Cooker holds up to 6 quarts of food. Watch for it in stores in May.

 - Oliso

4.  Frisper Freshkeeper

A new twist on vacuum-sealing, Oliso's Frisper relies on professional-grade resealable bags to conveniently keep food fresh. Fill one of its professional-grade bags with food, seal it in the compact countertop appliance, and store it in the freezer or fridge. You can open the bag, remove some of its contents, and reseal it, which makes it ideal for leftovers. Frisper bags can be used in the freezer and the microwave or on the stovetop (heated in a pot of simmering water). The company claims that using the Frisper keeps food five times fresher than other storage methods.

 - Oster

5.  Oster 3 in 1 Hand Blender, Mini Chopper and Electric Knife

There's an unlikely fusion of functions going on with Oster's latest tool. A stainless-steel blending rod can be used to make purees and smoothies, while a chopper attachment can cut and grind foods. Finally, the electric knife is a nice addition for slicing meats, particularly for home cooks who wouldn't otherwise invest in an electric slicer.
